Job Summary: The Assistant Director is responsible for assisting in the management and direction of the Surgery Department and the Central Sterile Department. This includes assisting in all aspects of personnel, materials and equipment, environmental control, education and orientation, assistance to surgeons, administrative duties and all aspects of intraoperative nursing care. The Assistant Director is responsible for the overall daily operations of Surgery and Central Sterile as well as administrative and clerical duties as assigned by the Director of Surgical Services. The Assistant Director is directly responsible for the Clinical Supervisor, Charge Nurses and Team Leaders and is responsible to the Director of Surgical Services. The Assistant Director carries out the duties of the Director in his/her absence.

Qualifications: 

Education: Must be a graduate of an accredited school of nursing. Baccalaureate Degree preferred.

Experience: Minimum of two years experience in a management of supervisory role preferred. Proficient use of electronic medical record and software systems such as scheduling programs and databases preferred.

Licenses/Certifications: Current licensure as a Registered Nurse by the Alabama Board of Nursing. Certified Nurse in the Operating Room is desired. Must maintain current BLS and ACLS certification.
