Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Histologist to join our team! This is a full time position.

The Histologist is responsible for the daily operation of histology to include the prompt meticulous preparation and staining of microscopic sections from tissue blocks selected by the pathologist.

We are seeking an experienced Histologist to join our team! This is a full time position. The Histologist is responsible for the daily operation of histology to include the prompt meticulous preparation and staining of microscopic sections from tissue blocks selected by the pathologist.

 

Responsibilities

 

  • Accurately orients tissue in paraffin blocks and produces high quality slides
  • Responsible for processing, cutting, and staining tissue specimens
  • Performs special stains as required
  • Maintains necessary files of slides and paraffin blocks while maintaining absolute certainty of identification of each specimen, block, and slide throughout processing and storage
  • Responsible for the maintaining of all specimens and records for the time designated by all regulating bodies
  • Performs and assists with frozen sections
  • Assists pathologist with bone marrow biopsies
  • Properly compares and verifies patient identification data on specimens and requisitions
  • Maintains  surgical specimen data
  • Processes both gyn and non-gyn cytology specimens when needed
  • Performs cytoprepatory duties as needed
  • Monitors instrumentation for daily quality control and preventative maintenance
  • Reviews and maintains quality control and preventative maintenance records, reviews and updates procedure manuals, inventories histology supplies, and evaluates new tests and procedures
  • Complete understanding of the Pathology Information System, including how reports are filed, printed and organized
  • Responsible for assuring section meets all regulatory requirements (JCAHO, CLIA, etc.)
  • Refers problems to the Pathologists or Laboratory Director as needed
  • Other duties as required

 

Qualifications

 

  • Minimum of a High School Diploma, or equivalent required. Associate's Degree preferred
  • Minimum of two (2) years of related histology experience in an acute care hospital laboratory setting required
  • American Society for Clinical Pathology Histotechnician HT(ASCP) or Histotechnologist or HTL(ASCP) certification preferred
