Education:

A high school diploma or GED and,

  • Associate's degree from an accredited program in Ultrasound Technology (required)

Requirements:

  • Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS), American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (ARDMS), or Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) through Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI). (required)
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) Certification (preferred)

Responsibilities:

  • Performs a variety of cardiac testing, including echocardiology, transesophageal echo studies, stress echo, cardiac Doppler and treadmill stress testing. Records and documents appropriately. 1-2 days in physician's clinic required. 
  • Responsible for clinical patient testing. This includes taking patient history and performance of a focused physical examination.  
  • Technical competence in all procedures performed within the vascular laboratory shall be demonstrated including cerebrovascular, venous and arterial extremity, renal, mesenteric, and abdominal arterial and venous duplex examinations. This requires a comprehensive knowledge of ultrasound physics, hemodynamic principles, and vascular as well as non-vascular anatomy and physiology. 
  • Having an extensive understanding of vascular pathology, its natural history and surgical and non-surgical treatment is required.
  • Performs ultrasound examinations of the heart to assist physicians in the diagnosis of disorders affecting circulation.
  • Records and maintains test data and prepares preliminary interpretations of test results.
  • Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Performs a variety of tasks. Works under general supervision.
