Job Description

Join our team! Laredo Medical Center's (LMC) Physical Medicine Department is now hiring a Speech Language Pathologist (SLP) to work at LMC's 326 bed acute care hospital. The department is located in the main campus of Laredo Medical Center. This is a busy department that sometimes requires flexibility in scheduling. Employees report directly to the Director of Physical Medicine. The Hospital is located in sunny Laredo, Texas, just 150 miles south of historic San Antonio. Read a full position description below. 

Position's Purpose and Essential Functions: 

Diagnoses and treats disorders of communication, cognition, and swallowing. Provides education and training to meet interdepartmental needs. Conducts Bedside Swallow Assessment, performs MBSS and completes appropriate treatment plans in accordance with departmental guidelines and best practice standards. Works well and communicates well within a team. Has excellent written communications skills. Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. 

Applicant's Job Requirements Include:

Education

  • Required: Graduate of an accredited Speech Therapy program. Master’s Degree.

Experience

May be a new graduate, but prefer one (1) to two (2) years of staff SLP experience. Experience with PDPM (Pt Driven Payment Model) system and ability to articulate skilled criteria a plus.

  • Preferred: Desirable characteristics include proficiency in written and verbal communication. Proficiency with computerized documentation, and the ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with the public.
  • Preferred: Experience/Competency with Modified Barium Swallows needed.

Licenses/Certifications

  • Required: Licensed or eligible for license in the State of Texas. Must hold or be eligible to obtain the Certificate of Competence (CCC) from the American Speech-Language and Hearing Association (ASHA).
  • Required: BLS within 30 days of hire.
