Director of Surgical Services & PACU

Status:   Full Time

The Director of Surgical Services & PACU functions under the direction of the Chief Nursing Officer and is responsible for the Nursing Care of the patients and directs others in the patient’s care.  This person delivers care based on the patient’s needs appropriate for the pediatric, adolescent, adult or geriatric patient. Demonstrates cooperation, flexibility, and resourcefulness in dealing with patients, physicians, visitors, and other hospital personnel. Assists with the maintenance of surgical equipment and inventory.  Participates in performance improvement activities.  Supervises Surgical Services nursing staff, assists with staff scheduling, and is involved with other duties as they pertain to the department.  All reports are completed in timely manner.   

Education:  Should be a graduate of an accredited school of nursing. Minimum of a B.S. Degree is required.  

Experience:  Desirable characteristics include at least three (3) years experience as a Registered Nurse in the Operating room.  It is also desirable to have some managerial experience.  Should be able to follow directions and give directions as well.  Should possess a high degree of confidentiality, positive interpersonal skills.  Must be able emotionally mature and able to function effectively under stress.  

Licensure/Certification:  Licensed to practice as a professional nurse in the State of Alabama.  BLS is required.  ACLS is also desired.
