Medication History Pharmacy Tech

• The medication history pharmacy technician assists with obtaining an accurate medication history and patient allergy/intolerance list within 24 hours of admission.
• This activity will consist mainly of face to face interviews with the patients in the Emergency Department (ED) and Nursing units along with clarifications with the patient's community pharmacy and/or provider as necessary. 
• The medication history pharmacy technician will have responsibility for completing unit inspections for all ED and Diagnostic imaging areas, as well as assist with the care and maintenance of department equipment, hardware, and supplies. 
• Employee should work toward effective, efficient use of all pharmacy resources.

Education/License/Certification:

• High school graduate or GED
• Must be registered with the TN Board of Pharmacy
• Current pharmacy technician certification through PTCB

• 2 years of experience with at least  1 year in a retail setting required.
• At least 5 years experience in a retail setting is preferred
• At least 1 yr or equivalent experience in a hospital pharmacy setting is preferred.
• Significant working knowledge or medication names, common doses, route of administration, and adverse effect
• Knowledge of unit dose distribution, repackaging, medication storage inspections, and pharmacy automated devices is preferred
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills necessary to meet the needs of all customer groups
• Concentration and attention to detail - often under time pressures
• Functional knowledge of excel and outlook
• Repetitive use of hands and fingers
